Hiro Mashima, the creator of the Groove Adventure Rave (Rave Master) and Fairy Tail manga series, will be a guest at this year's Comic-Con International on July 24-27 in San Diego, California.
Mashima's Japanese publisher Kodansha and Fairy Tail's American
publisher Del Rey jointly arranged Mashima's appearance, which will
include a panel and book signing. According to Del Rey Associate
Publisher Dallas Middaugh, the initial invitation to Mishima was made
over a half year ago, and several months before Fairy Tail was set to
go on sale in the United States. Middaugh noted that the first two
volumes of Fairy Tail, which were published simultaneously, have been
Del Rey's strongest start since Negima.
Mishima will be at least the second big-name manga artist appearing at
this year's convention. Last week, Viz Media announced that Bleach's
Tite Kubo will be participating in a Shonen Jump panel and two
autograph signings. He will also attend the theatrical screening of the
Bleach: Memories of Nobody movie, which Viz plans to hold at a downtown
San Diego theater, and deliver a short speech introducing the film.
